Berwick is situated in Kings County, on the eastern part of the Annapolis Valley along the Cornwallis River. The Berwick town slogan declares the town to be the "Apple Capital of Nova Scotia." Berwick was incorporated in 1923, constructing a hydro electric dam in the same decade which today is still operated by the town. Apples were a major reason Berwick developed into a town and today the apple market is at a decline, yet it's still a key element of Berwick's industry. In the 1950s, Berwick expanded into various fields such as crops and livestock, but overall, Berwick residents take work in neighboring towns. Berwick is located 121 km (75.2 mi.) northwest of Halifax.

Berwick is home to the Apple Capital Interpretive Centre, which promotes the history of Berwick's most cherished industry. The Lake George Provincial Park is an inland park with a sandy beach, a boat launch, a picnic area and pretty scenery. Berwick offers fine dining, shopping, a casual environment and hospitality.

Berwick offers bed and breakfasts and campgrounds.
