Malagash is a small community best known for being Canada's first rock salt mine location. The mine began operation in 1918 and lasted over four decades under the Malagash Salt Company. It seemed as though Malagash left the salt mining industry behind in pursuit of more stable activities, such as agriculture and fishing when in 1956, the Pugwash shaft sank in an even more suitable mining harbour. By 1959, the Malagash Salt Company would close its doors for good.

Malagash is home to the Jost Winery, which produces home-grown grapes in a microclimate atmosphere, successfully making their products a rarity to the province. Malagash is also home to a modern government wharf, collecting groundfish and small lobsters. Come see the Malagash Salt Miners Museum, the local vineyard and all the nature that Malagash has to offer. With the ocean just minutes away, beaches and trails are abundant. Malagash is located 159 km (98.7 mi.) north of Halifax.

Malagash accommodations offer bed and breakfasts, inns and cottages.
