Meagher's Grant is positioned alongside the Musquodoboit River, on Highway 357. A member of Halifax County, Meagher's Grant was literally formed from a 5000-acre grant that was given to Martin Meagher, a Loyalist from North Carolina, thus providing the basis for the town name. Martin Meagher arrived to the land in 1783. More grants would follow as Meagher's Grant developed. Meagher's Grant received a stretch of railway track in 1916 that connected all the way to Upper Musquodoboit, providing an economic boost.  Today, industries of notability are agriculture and forestry. Meagher's Grant is located 57.8 km (35.9 mi.) northeast of Halifax.

Meagher's Grant is home to many fun activities, such as canoeing and kayaking in the river, and relaxing at the nearby Dollar Lake Provincial Park, which offers swimming, boating, more trails and a relaxing beach. Meagher's Grant exhibits beautiful heritage buildings, beautiful scenery and a quiet nature. The River Oaks Golf Club is a picturesque 18-hole masterpiece and one of Nova Scotia's most beautiful courses. As well, the Stillwaters Golf Course is an attractive 9-hole, par 3 course.

Meagher's Grant accommodations include campgrounds.
