Sackville is located in Westmorland County, on the western edge of the Tantramar Marches. Initially, the land belonged to the Mi'kmaq natives, until a French settlement took place in 1604, which was followed by the construction of dykes to maintain the farmlands and develop more land. The Acadian villagers were eventually expelled by an order to deport by Lieutenant Governor Charles Lawrence. Eventually Sackville would be filled with many New England Planters, and as the town grew, more industry would come, especially with the development of the Intercolonial Railway in 1872 which led to Truro and Moncton.

Sackville is home to a golf course, a golf club and a driving tour in the backseat of a luxurious, classy town car. Sackville landmarks include the Cranewood, which is a glorious Georgian-style home in Sackville town centre. Mel's Tea Room is a local restaurant that, on the outside, looks more like a general store and inside offers old-fashioned visuals and generous hospitality. Mel's Tea Room opened in Sackville in 1919. Sackville is located just 26.3 (16.3 mi.) northwest of Halifax.

Sackville accommodations include bed and breakfasts and campgrounds.
