St. George's Channel is situated on the south western shores of the great Bras d'Or Lake on Cape Breton Island. St. George's Channel is part of Richmond County. Previously titled Soldier's Gulf, St. George's Channel is believed to be named after a channel of the same name in Great Britain. The first settler to St. George's Channel was Alex Cameron, who came to the land in 1813. Years later he would receive a grant, and in the mid 1800s the town would develop a school and postal way office. St. George's Channel is 110 km (68.4 mi.) southwest of Sydney.

St. George's Channel offers Easy Dive Canada, which allows tourists to dive with a professional crew to visit shipwrecks of the past, as well as marine life. St. George's Channel is surrounded by rich forests and the vast Bras d'Or Lake, which includes glorious river banks and beaches. Visitors can fish, kayak, swim, walk inspiring forest trails, sight-see the never ending scenery and wildlife, or simply relax and relish the invigorating atmosphere.

St. George's Channel accommodations include cottages.
