Upper Economy is a member of Colchester County, on the northern shores of Cobequid Bay. It's believed that the Ulster Scottish first came to the Economy area in the early 1700s, and in 1768, Irish settlers came to rest in Upper Economy. Numerous churches rose up in the area and a postal way office became operational in 1856. Modest in size, Upper Economy is a farming community with various mills. Upper Economy is located 54.4 km (33.8 mi.) west of Truro, along the scenic Glooscap Trail.

Upper Economy is home to That Dutchman's Farm, which produces delicious Dutch cheese and boasts 50-acres of land to discover. That Dutchman's Farm includes pretty walking trails and waterways, unique farm animals, a gift shop, a restaurant and a friendly atmosphere. Thomas's Cove Coastal Reserve offers two extensive walking and hiking trails, a picnic area, spectacular panoramic views of the cliffs and water, a beach and even Triassic fossils.

Upper Economy accommodations include bed and breakfasts.
