Located in Lunenburg County, Bridgewater is the most populated town in the South Shore. Primarily a commercial and industrial success, Bridgewater is mostly known for its Michelin tire plant. Bridgewater's first settlers migrated mostly from Lunenburg and LaHave, and its first house was built in 1812. Bridgewater was incorporated in 1899, and was initially known for its wood mill until the aforementioned tire plant was built, helping Bridgewater rebound from the closing of its wood mill.
Bridgewater celebrates the "Big Ex" fair, an agriculture fair that has been an annual celebration for over 100 years, and attracts over 50,000 people. Bridgewater boasts over 100 acres of park land inside its limits, including a beautiful duck pond. Bridgewater is home to the DesBrisay Museum, a swimming pool, and various shopping facilities. Bridgewater is known for its closeness in proximity to Lunenburg, a thriving tourist hotspot. Bridgewater is 102 km (63.4 mi.) from Halifax.
