New Minas, a part of Annapolis Valley, is located in Kings County. Acadians were the initial residents of New Minas, and built many dykes along the Cornwallis River and Minas Basin. In 1713, the British took control of the land, and New Minas became a part of the Horton Township.

At one time, New Minas was mainly a farming and agriculture village, but with the construction of Highway 101 in the 1970s, New Minas' industry shifted. Today, New Minas is home to numerous food-processing plants as well as continually growing agricultural community and various commercial outlets.

New Minas proudly exhibits the Minilinks Family Entertainment Centre, an amusement park with mini-golf and various games. New Minas also offers a world class 18-hole golf course and a comprehensive 3-hour tour of the Bay of Fundy region, including a winery tour. New Minas is located 100 km (62 mi.) northwest of Halifax.
