Deerfield is a small community near the western shores of Nova Scotia's mainland on Hooper Lake. Deerfield is a member of Yarmouth County, and is also part of the Municipality of Yarmouth. It is believed that the town name comes from the abundance of deer that inhabited the area at the time the town was named. The community was formed in the early 1800s, after residents of Yarmouth trekked northeast to settle here. An early industry of importance at Deerfield was lumber; a sawmill was constructed here in the 1800s. Deerfield is a driving distance of 18.5 (11.5 mi.) from Yarmouth.

Deerfield is home to the Ellenwood Lake Provincial Park, which offers such activities as walking through trails in wooded areas, canoeing, kayaking, beachcombing, and swimming in the lake. As well, Deerfield is home to rare and interesting flora, plenty of animals and picnic areas. Also, enjoy fly-fishing after receiving lessons on the sport from specialists. Nearby Yarmouth is a great place to learn of local history at museums and historical sites, see interesting art at galleries, see the coast and lighthouses and more.

Deerfield accommodations include campgrounds.
