Enfield is located in the Shubenacadie Valley, and actually exists in both the Halifax Regional Municipality and the East Hants Municipal District. Enfield was named by Thomas Donaldson, who emigrated from Enfield, Connecticut in the late 1800s. At one time, the Nova Scotia Railway and Intercolonial Railway ran through Enfield, which is situated nearly at the midway point between Halifax and Truro, but the railways have since been taken out of service. In the mid 1800s, Enfield would use a system of locks to help navigate small ships from the Bay of Fundy to Shubenacadie Grand Lake. Today, Enfield is largely a home for employees of the airport, or those who travel to Halifax and the surrounding area to work.

While in Enfield, enjoy the electrifying sport of auto racing, and as a bonus, guests can be put in the driver's seat at the On Track Driving Experience. The Halifax Stanfield International Airport is located just outside Enfield, which also hosts an annual air show. Enfield is also home to the Atlantic Canada Aviation Museum. Enfield is 38.6 km (24 mi.) northeast of Halifax.
