Mulgrave is a small town situated within Guysborough County on the Strait of Canso and is just across the water from the town of Port Hawkesbury. Mulgrave was settled by British Loyalists in the 1800s; back then Mulgrave wasn't in fact Mulgrave, it was called McNair's Cove. Mulgrave is named for the Earl of Mulgrave and was incorporated as a town in 1923. Mulgrave is located 267 km (165.9 mi.) northeast of Halifax.

The Mulgrave Heritage Centre is an excellent museum dedicated to the history of Mulgrave and the surrounding area, and was actually built as a replica of the Scotia II ferry. Mulgrave also is the home of the Scotia Lookoff, which includes a shaded area for picnics as well as a spectacular elevated view of the Strait of Canso. The Venus Cove Park offers a boardwalk, a picnic area and a floating dock. On the other side of town, Marie Peeples Park offers replicas of a caboose and box car, and is located on an abandoned track.

Mulgrave accommodations include bed and breakfasts.
