Nictaux is positioned along the Nictaux River and is a member of Annapolis County. The Mi'kmaq once called the land Niktak, which means "the forks of a river." Nictaux was first settled in the early 1800s, as the first church was constructed in Nictaux in 1809, later to be used as a school. Nictaux lost numerous churches and schools to fires in the 19th century. Back then, the town was a busy working community, known for shipbuilding, mining and agriculture. Today, Nictaux is contributing member of the lumber industry. Nictaux is located 82.7 km (51.4 mi.) northeast of Digby, traveling on Highway 101.
