Sandy Point is a little community that can be found near the southern most tip of Nova Scotia, in the county of Shelburne. Sandy Point, the town name, is an English translation of the Mi'kmaq word, Amaltunik. The Mi'kmaq gave Sandy Point its name because of its beaches, which consist of soft white sand. Sandy Point was founded in 1765, and Loyalists arrived in 1783. The main industries in the area following settlement became fishing, forestry and agriculture. Sandy Point is 109 km (67.7 mi.) south of Lunenburg, travelling on the pretty Lighthouse Route (Highway 3).

Sandy Point offers much in terms of entertainment, as visitors can enjoy activities such as kayaking, taking scenic tours, swimming, relaxing at the beach, walking the coastline, bird-watching and experiencing centuries old heritage and culture. Nearby, there are places to go fishing, museums to explore, lush parks, a freshwater lake and the pretty town harbour is a great place to watch the sailboats float by and soak up the atmosphere.
