Upper Stewiacke is situated in Highway 289 and is a member of Colchester County. Upper Stewiacke is also located by a river of the same name. The land at Upper Stewiacke was granted to a large group of settlers in 1783, of which only a handful would stay to form the community. From early settlement, many churches were constructed here, including the first in 1793, but many of them have been lost to various fires and storms. Main industries in Upper Stewiacke are forestry and agriculture. Upper Stewiacke is located only 40.2 km (25 mi.) southeast of Truro.

The Stewiacke Valley Museum, based in an 1886 heritage building, features many different pioneer themed rooms such as a classroom, a doctor's office, a workshop and more. As well, remember to bring a camera to Butcher's Falls, a pristine waterfall nestled in the nearby woods.
