West Dover is a member of Halifax County, situated on the southern shores of Nova Scotia's mainland and along the scenic Lighthouse Route (Highway 333). East and West Dover were at one time together, but an Act of Legislation separated the two towns. The term Dover comes from a seaport on England's southern shores. First settlers to West Dover came in 1855 and were mostly of Scottish and Irish descent. Near the end of the 19th century, West Dover was a successful fishing harbour. West Dover is just 40.6 km (25.2 mi.) southwest of Halifax.

West Dover is just minutes from the world famous fishing village of Peggy's Cove, and offers numerous activities such as kayaking, hiking through trails, seeing a waterfall, fishing, exploring the rare flora and fauna of the natural forest, walking tours, fine dining, a floating dock and a sandy beach. Of course, West Dover is in the midst of unbelievable scenery that no visitor could pass up.

West Dover accommodations include bed and breakfasts and cottages.
