The town of Guysborough, not surprisingly, is central to Guysborough County. Guysborough was named after Guy Carleton, the commander in chief of British forces in North America. Guysborough was established in 1879 after the passing of the County Incorporation Act. Initially, there were three main industries in the Guysborough County, farming, fishing and mining. Guysborough is located on the west coast of the Chedabucto Bay, 274 km (170.3 mi.) east of Halifax.

Guysborough is home to the Old Courthouse Museum and Information Centre, a building built 1842 that features various artefacts from the community. Boylston Provincial Park overlooks Guysborough Harbour and is a scenic spot to relax for an afternoon picnic. The picturesque Osprey Shores Golf Resort is a 9-hole gem with views of the water. In the Guysborough marina, rent a canoe or kayak. Guysborough has all the hospitality you need, with numerous restaurants.

Guysborough accommodations include bed and breakfasts and hotels.
