Bayfield is situated on the southern shores of the beautiful St. Georges Bay, as part of Antigonish County. The town name honours Admiral Henry W. Bayfield, a 19th century surveyor. Before Bayfield, the town was called Little River. Though small is size, Bayfield was once a shipbuilding centre, home to an abundance of vessels in the 1800s. Today, Bayfield is mostly a fishing community. The town of Antigonish is only 24.6 km (15.3 mi.) west of Bayfield.

Bayfield is home to a small, yet popular beach, the Bayfield Beach, which boasts an excellent picnic area, white sand, and pristine views of St. Georges Bay. Other available activities in and around Bayfield include walking down trails, taking tours, boating, fishing, canoeing and kayaking and simply exploring and discovering the beautiful land. As well, be sure to keep an eye out for eagles and hummingbirds.

Bayfield accommodations include waterfront cottages.
