Country Harbour is a member of Guysborough County, and is situated at the southern most shores of Chedabucto Bay. Country Harbour is a total of 274 km (170.3 mi.) to the east of Halifax. Initially, British colonial authorities seriously considered Country Harbour as the site of the provincial capital, but ultimately the area lost out to Halifax. Initial industries in Country Harbour were gold mining, forestry and fishing. Country Harbour is fronted by a very deep harbour of the same name, thus many vessels near Country Harbour are for deep-sea fishing. Today, many residents must travel to neighboring towns to work.

Country Harbour is home to the Salsman Provincial Park, located on the eastern side of the harbour. Salsman Provincial Park offers picnic areas, a boat launch, a beach and glorious Mother Nature. Country Harbour is also the home of the Loyalist Hiking Trail, which is a two hour hike that leads to the Loyalist Building which can be found on the shores of Country Harbour. The Loyalist Building offers a vast local history dating back to the 1700s.

Country Harbour accommodations include campgrounds.
