Cheticamp today is the entrance to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park and was initially a fishing station used during the summer by Charles Robin, a merchant of Jersey Island. Eventually, Cheticamp would become a well known fishing spot, as many Acadians began to funnel to the area in the years following the Great Expulsion. When Pierre Bois and Joseph Richard settled on the land in 1782, it would take only three years for Cheticamp to become an established settlement.
La Plage St. Pierre, a local beach, is a hotspot for locals and tourists, providing a great place for swimming and soaking in the sun. Whale watching, golfing the spectacular Le Portage golf course, fly-fishing and horse back riding are just a few activities in Cheticamp. There are many Cheticamp museums along with beaches, guided tours and six hiking trails.
Cheticamp accommodations include bed and breakfasts, inns, hotels, cottages, campgrounds and more. Cheticamp is 166 km (103 mi.) from
