Iona is a small Gaelic community in the "Highland Heart of Nova Scotia" and belongs to Victoria County. Iona is tucked away in Pipers Cove on the shores of the illustrious Bras d'Or Lake. Iona is populated predominantly of Scottish descendants, and is rich in Scottish heritage. Iona was settled in the early 1800s by the MacNeils, as today the MacNeils, MacKenzies, MacDonalds, MacLeans and Campbells make up a large portion of the population. Iona is situated just 64.5 km (40.1 mi.) southwest of Sydney, Nova Scotia.

The scenic Klondyke Road offers an intimate look inside the nature of the Cape Breton Island, including many sightings of foxes, raccoons and hares, as well as beautiful sugar maple, spruce and birch trees.

Iona is home to the Nova Scotia Highlands Village Museum, which commemorates the early Scottish settlers of the Iona area. The museum also features a mill, a school, a forge and seven other historical buildings. The MacCormack Provincial Park includes a picnic area, beaches and the glorious scenery of Plaster Cove.

Iona accommodations include inns.
