Kempt Shore is a member of Hants County, on the eastern entrance of the Avon River which funnels into the beautiful Minas Basin. The land at Kempt Shore was first granted in 1783 to William Hutchinson; the grant was 2000 acres. Kempt Shore takes its name from Sir James Kempt, a past Lieutenant-Governor of Nova Scotia. Main industries at Kempt Shore are agriculture and fishing. Kempt Shore is positioned 82.3 km (51.1 mi.) north of Halifax, Nova Scotia's Capital city.

Kempt Shore is the home of the annual Bluegrass and Oldtime Music Festival, which is held every August and features world class singers and songwriters. As well, Kempt Shore features a beautiful beach, hiking trails, swimming in the river and the bay, bird-watching, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and boating. The scenic shorelines at Kempt Shore are a must see, as is the rest of the surrounding wilderness here.

Kempt Shore accommodations include campgrounds.
