Margaree Forks is part of Inverness County, along the popular Cabot Trail near the west coast of Cape Breton Island. The town name is based from two different Margaree River streams that come together. First European settlers to Margaree Forks were Archibald Chisholm and Joseph Chisholm, from Strathglass, Scotland, in 1809. The Chisholms would go on to build a blacksmith shop. With time more settlers would arrive, via Scotland and Ireland. In the mid 1800s, a new post office was constructed, and with that followed the construction of schools in 1872, 1925 and 1963. Margaree Forks is 132 km (82 mi.) northwest of Sydney.

Margaree Forks offers various activities, such as fishing or kayaking the scenic Margaree River, golfing on the Margaree Valley G.C Golf Course, spotting various animals such as beavers, bald eagles and hummingbirds and hiking or biking the inspiring nearby trails. Nearby Margaree Forks exist numerous beaches, whale-watching tours, highlands to the north and in summer months, Celtic music concerts are the norm. In all, Margaree Forks is a beautiful, relaxing getaway.

Margaree Forks accommodations include bed and breakfasts.
