North East Margaree is located in the Midwest region of Cape Breton Island, as part of Inverness County. North East Margaree was first settled by James Ross, as he and brothers would go on to acquire grants of the land in the early 1800s. North East Margaree is home to many different churches, all constructed in the 1800s. Back then, North East Margaree had a blacksmith shop and a woollen mill, which employed a large bulk of the population. North East Margaree is positioned 123 km (76.4 mi.) west of Sydney.

North East Margaree is home to fishing, and includes rentals for canoes, kayaks and pedal boats. The Margaree Salmon Museum focuses on salmon angling from the past, and features an aquarium, samples, used equipment, interesting fishing stories, insight and much more. Enjoy swimming at the lake, go for a soothing hike down one or many of the invigorating nearby trails or eat out at a delicious seafood restaurant featuring local fish.
