North Shore is a small community situated in Victoria County, as part of beautiful Cape Breton Island, midway between the glorious Cape Breton Highlands National Park and the Sydney Airport. North Shore was settled in the early 1800s by a group of Irish settlers. The first North Shore school was built here in 1854. As well, fishing is considered the main industry in North Shore. Sydney is approximately 99.6 km (61.9 mi.) driving distance southeast of North Shore, traveling on the spectacularly scenic Cabot Trail and Highway 105.

North Shore is a great place to explore nature, the Cabot Trail, the ocean and more. North Shore is home to the Plaster Provincial Park, which has tranquil picnic areas, woodlands, wildlife and picturesque visuals. North Shore is close to world class golf courses that look out to the sea. Visitors can kayak, canoe, hike and walk tranquil trails, relax at beaches, swim in the ocean, explore local history or venture in style down the Cabot Trail to other nearby attractions such as the Fortress of Louisbourg, the Alexander Graham Bell Museum and Sydney.

North Shore accommodations include beautiful bed and breakfasts.
