Shelburne is situated in the southwest corner of Nova Scotia, with a modern slogan claiming Shelburne is "where Canada's history comes alive!" After the French were dismissed in 1755, it wasn't until 1783 that 5000 immigrants settled on the land. These settlers came from New York and of Middle Colonies of the Thirteen Colonies. Of these settlers, all were United Empire Loyalist, who opposed the American Revolution.
By 1783, a second group of settlers arrived at Shelburne. The following year Shelburne's population was over 10,000, making Shelburne one of the largest towns in North America. Shelburne's rapid growth would decrease and ultimately settle to a small fishing town. Today, Shelburne, despite its low population, is still the capital of its county of the same name.
Shelburne is home to an historic waterfront district, in which you can find art galleries and antique stores, yacht clubs and a public marina. Golf Shelburne's gorgeous course, go canoeing or relax at one of three of Shelburne's vibrant beaches. Come see the Birding and Nature festival, the Founders' Day festival, or the Lobster festival in the summer months. Shelburne also offers museums, and historical landmarks and interests.
Shelburne accommodations include bed and breakfasts, inns, resorts, cottages, motels and campgrounds.
