St. Joseph du Moine can be found in Inverness County, directly south of Grand Etang on the glorious Cabot Trail. The land at St. Joseph du Moine was granted in 1832 to French settlers who petitioned to settle in the area decades earlier. Today, St. Joseph du Moine is still an Acadian village, consisting primarily of French speaking citizens. St. Joseph du Moine was initially a part of the town of Cheticamp, but separated into its own community in 1879. As well, St. Joseph du Moine is a total driving distance of 155 km (96.3 mi.) northwest of Sydney, while travelling on Cabot Trail and Highway 105.

St. Joseph du Moine is in an excellent location, on the western shores of Cape Breton Island, a short yet breathtaking drive north on the Cabot Trail to the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. A unique and peculiar attraction at St. Joseph du Moine is Joe's Scarecrows, which is a large field of over 100 scarecrows, originally created to protect the growing crops. The St. Joseph du Moine Windmill is also an excellent attraction. Visitors to St. Joseph du Moine can enjoy sightseeing, museums, a rich culture, art galleries, hunting, fishing, animal watching and much more.

St. Joseph du Moine accommodations include seaside bed and breakfasts.
