Creignish is positioned on the western side of Cape Breton Island, on the eastern shores of the scenic St. Georges Bay. Creignish is also a member of Inverness County. It is likely that Creignish derives its name from a town in Scotland of the same name. One of the first settlers to arrive at the land where Creignish rests now was Duncan MacDonald, who arrived here in 1798. A noteworthy resident of Creignish is fiddle player Ashley MacIsaac. Creignish is situated 15.5 km (9.6 mi.) northwest of the town of Port Hawkesbury.

Just outside of Creignish is the scenic Creignish Mountain, which is a total of 850 ft (260 m) high. Creignish is home to picturesque, renowned sunsets, pretty views of the bay, the shoreline and vast open skies. As well, an artist workshop can be found in Creignish. Enjoy swimming in the ocean, kayaking, canoeing, hiking up and down picturesque trails, taking tours, fishing and relaxing amid the beauty of the land surrounding Creignish.
