Lockeport is located in Shelburne County, in the Ragged Islands Bay on the South Shore. In fact, Lockeport was once known as Ragged Islands. In 1761, Josiah Churchill arrived at Lockeport in search of a great place to fish. Initial, Lockeport was one of the wealthiest towns in the province, banking on the success of the fish industry. To this day, Lockeport is home to many fish processing plants and lobster pounds.
Crescent Beach is famous for being Lockeport's most charmed asset, having been placed on the back of the 1957 Canadian fifty dollar bill. Lockeport is also known for its spectacular views, beaches, and ocean front location. Lockeport is home to various historical Colonial, Georgian and Victorian houses, especially at the lower end of South Street, which overlooks the beautiful Lockeport Harbour.
