Located in Lunenburg County, Bridgewater straddles the LaHave River. Home to 8,000 people, Bridgewater is the largest and most industrial town on Nova Scotia's South Shore. Major employers in town include Michelin, government, and the regional school board and hospital.
Bridgewater presents museums, parks, and an annual fair. The 1860 Wile Carding Mill is a living museum that features original carding machines in the restored mill and equipment that includes an overshot waterwheel that still turns. The DesBrisay Museum and Exhibition Centre displays the history and heritage of Lunenburg County, in the 25 acre Bridgewater Woodland Gardens with picnic areas, winding trails and a large pond. Bridgewater is also home to the annual South Shore Exhibition, one of Nova Scotia's largest agricultural fairs. For nature lovers, Bridgewater's sand beaches and nearby countryside fit the bill.
A few miles away is Lunenburg, established in 1753 as the first British colonial settlement outside of Halifax and today home to 2,320 people. Lunenburg's Old Town is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. It's an excellent example of 18th Century British town planning, with its rectangular grid pattern of narrow streets and compact lots. Some 18th Century wooden houses and Churches still stand. The waterfront is known for the Bluenose II, a replica of its famous predecessor - the schooner pictured on the back of Canadian 10 cent (dime) coins. Bluenose's captain and era are memorialized at The Captain Angus J. Walters House Museum. Venture onto the water by joining an educational boat tour featuring lobster fishermen, or catch a whale watching tour. Nearby, Ovens Natural Park offers camping, and coastal forest with hiking trails and boat tours to the sea caves, or "ovens".

The main floor has a fully equipped kitchen and dining area; a living room with patio doors and a reading room with ocean view. Our Mahone Bay bed and breakfast was built by shipwright Henry Schnare (c1840) and is a typical example of a mid 1800s Gothic Revival.
